　国際交流基金マニラ日本文化センター、フィリピン日本商工会議所は、かめのり財団の助成を得て、カリフォルニア大学サンディエゴ校教授の當作靖彦先生をマニラにお迎えし、 特別講演会を開催いたします。
　當作靖彦先生は、永年にわたり日本語教育環境の向上のために文字通り世界中を飛び回ってご尽力され、令和4年度文化庁長官表彰を受賞されるなど、世界的な日本語教育家として活躍されており、近年はベトナムの教師教育にも大きなご貢献をされています。
　本イベントでは、當作先生の幅広いご知見をうかがい、当地の日本語教育の産官学民のステークホルダーのみなさまとご一緒にフィリピン日本語教育の未来を考えたいと思います。

當作靖彦先生について
　當作靖彦先生（カリフォルニア大学サンディエゴ校言語学博士号取得）は、カリフォルニア大学サンディエゴ校グローバル政策・戦略学部の教授および言語プログラムディレクターです。主な研究分野は、第二言語習得、言語教育法、言語評価で、全米日本語教育学会の会長やアメリカ合衆国における共同国家言語委員会の理事などの役職を歴任されました。
　現在は、アメリカで言語教育の基準を定めるプロジェクト（World-Readiness Standards：グローバル社会におけるコミュニケーション能力を測るスタンダード）の執行委員や日本語教育支援システム研究会（Computer Assisted System for Teaching & Learning / Japanese）の会長、一般社団法人 日本外国語教育推進機構（JACTFL）の理事なども務めています。當作先生の功績は様々な機関から広く認められ、公益社団法人日本語教育学会賞（2015年）、米国日本語教師協会生涯功績賞（2020年）、文化庁長官表彰（2022年）などを受賞しています。

The Japan Foundation, Manila (JFM), and the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Philippines (JCCIPI), with the support of the Kamenori Foundation, will host a Special Lecture on Nihongojin Development in the Philippines featuring Dr. Yasu-Hiko Tohsaku from the University of California (UC), San Diego. Dr. Tohsaku is a renowned Japanese language educator who has dedicated decades to enhancing the teaching and learning environments of Japanese language in many countries. He was recently honored with the Commissioner for Cultural Affairs Award by the Japanese Government in 2022 for his distinguished achievements. Notably, Dr. Tohsaku has made significant contributions to the training of Japanese teachers in Vietnam in recent years. During the lecture, he will impart his insights on improving the Japanese education landscape. We aim for this lecture to catalyze dialogue among stakeholders from various sectors—industry, academia, and government—towards envisioning a brighter future for Japanese Education in the Philippines.

(Biography of Dr. Tohsaku)
Dr. Yasu-Hiko Tohsaku (Ph.D. in linguistics, UC San Diego) is Professor and Language Program Director at School of Global Policy and Strategy, UC San Diego. His current research interests are second language acquisition, language pedagogy, and language assessment. He was formerly President of Association of Teachers of Japanese and American Association of Teachers of Japanese, and a board member of Joint National Committee on Languages in the United States.
He is currently the Japanese representative to the Executive Board of the National Standards (World-Readiness Standards) Collaborative Project in the United States, President of the International Association of Computer-Based Japanese Instruction, and a board member of Japanese Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (JACTFL) in Japan. He received various awards for his work, including the Society Award from the Society of Teaching Japanese as a Foreign Language in Japan in 2015, the Lifelong Achievement Award from the American Association of Teachers of Japanese in 2020, and the Commissioner’s Award from the Agency for Cultural Affairs (Bunkacho) in 2022.
